How big is your steam folder?

No idea at the moment, but soon to be 0!

Is there a decent way to backup your steam games? I'm about to reformat my hard drive and dont really fancy downloading them all again! Could I just copy the directory onto my external hard drive?

Just copy the steamapps directory onto your ext HD, then when you have formatted and put steam back on, you can copy the folder back accross
 
i've got os, games, music and videos all on seperate partitions, saves so much time not having to move them about all the time. its definately a good way to do it cos then you only have to reformat the OS partition and you loose nothing else :)

Don't have it installed anymore as I haven't played anything through Steam since HL2:Ep1.

Gonna need it soon for Ep2 but I can't decide whether I want to get the retail Orange box or not.... it's cheaper but I'd get to play the game quicker via STEAM.
Shame you can't get Ep2 seperately as I'm not interested in TF2 or Portal and already have the first 2 installments.
