How cam I install XP from a USB key?

Your motherboard needs to be able to boot from USB firstly.. then just copy the CD to the USB device :)

Is this for a eee ?

Not an eee, just a normal nano-itx rig I've built with no optical drive. It boots from USB fine tho.

If I can get it to install from a USB key it will save a lot of time and hassle. :)

once it's installed, i'd make a bootable acronis usb stick and use that to create/restore images to it, much faster than installing each time

Not a bad idea, I've currently got something a ubcd4win disk with acronis on it, so I'll see if I can make a USB key version of that disk. :)

if you install acronis in windows, it's got a bootable media creator section, can create an iso / write to cd / write to a usb stick
