How can EE be so far out measuring my Data usage?

This month I've noticed that my allowance has gone a lot quicker than usual despite my usage being similar. Usually EE is a few hundred Mb out which is fine, but they're about 2Gb off!

On the 19th of this month, 1.5Gb off...

Today it's gone down by another Gb after using only 600Mb

I reset at the start of the billing period to keep things simple, I know that packets lost or retransmitted still count as I have a basic understanding of how the usage is measured but is it worth raising because I am probably going to end up buying a package to get me through the rest of the month. The previous month I still had about 2Gb left at the end of the billing period and usage has been the same!

LTE/UMTS overhead isn't that much, I'd phone up and ask whats going on. The device which captures how much data you use is fairly upstream, it won't incur this much extra transfer.

One thing a lot of these systems seem to log is unsolicited connection attempts i.e. if someone using the IP before you did a lot of torrenting and peers were still trying to connect - over a month that can add up to quite a bit though probably not enough for that level of discrepancy.

There is also the potential somewhere for a mix up between counters that only include download and those that combine both download and upload.

My usage listed on the phone vs the network has always been as near as bang on with O2 & Vodafone, interesting as I was considering going with EE for the 4G etc...?

Not impressed to say the least. But with my allowance, I don't think I can be bothered to call.

If Janesy does, I'd like to hear their excuse.

Mine is normally fairly accurate, though this month is exceptional.

I'm a bit more persistent, I'll give them a call tomorrow. I've only used half my allowance, they think I've used over three quarters, it's not right - last month it was only about 10% out.

I recently moved my wife over to EE. She's always had a very low data allowance - 500mb, but it's always been more than enough when she was with t-mobile as she only uses whatsapp really when out of wifi. Last month somehow she had used all her data only half way through the month...

I'd also be interested to hear what they say when you ring them.

EE for some reason have a massive issue with their website.

Their coverage checker is broken again and the data counter also appears to be broken (it's not the first time).

My EE data counter has been broken for about 10 days now, I have 12 month £36 sim only with 5GB deal with 50% discount. My account shows an early upgrade on 1/9/2014, not too keen on upgrading if EE cannot sort out the billing.

If the EE 3G coverage is good where you frequent, I'd seriously consider switching to Three. As both EE and Three and part of MBNL, 3G coverage is the same.

3G speeds are really good on Three most of the time so you might not even miss the fewer 4G locations.

This isn't a network competition, you could at least try to be useful ;) If it's any use my Voda devices are all within 3% with usages from a few 100mb to one 10gig+. I tried to look into overhead for you this morning and everything I can read says >5% = problem somewhere as the billing system is really pretty good these days, overhead is slightly different depending on the radio interface but not enough to alter beyond a couple of %.

This is enough to raise the issue, kona's results are quite honestly worrying unless you're on a sharing plan or something.

Telling me to change to Three is no help at all because 3G coverage is poor to non existent where I spend most of my time (I have signal but can't connect to anything) and I've solved it by switching to 4G. I'm happy with the service and 5GB is enough, when it's measured properly so I need to complain rather than cancel.

I'm just on a normal plan, no sharing. Now you've egged me on to give them a call :p. Will do today and report back.

Bryan if you need any help I have a friend that works for EE that may be able to add a bit of weight behind. Text/FB me if you want to discuss. :)

Spoke to EE CS, they say their monitoring is accurate and do not back any device specific apps, just their own.

I have used a **** load of HD YouTube this month so not really sure which is the accurate figure.

Anyone know how much data per hour of 720p YT?

Likely over 1gig an hour at 720p.

Personally getting tired of the money grabbing EE do. The early 4G tariffs were incredibly expensive but despite this EE still charge the most for Roaming, 0845 numbers and now to get good customer service.

I'm ditching as soon as my contract ends next year.

You do know that texts/FB work both ways, surely you could have initiated that conversation via one of those channels if you are friends with Bryan. ;)
