Tried that, seems to have no effect - type facebook into google & in you go.
OpenDNS has some good filtering with categories for such things as facebook/MSN etc. I've used it in the past and the bonus is that it's FREE!
Windows Vista and 7 have built in parental controls, but they will only lock down IE. Your best bet is paid for software or putting a rule in the router, if it allows you to.
Saying that, education is better than blocking content. Kids will always find a way, but if they're educated on how to use the Internet safely, they'll have a better time than if their parents try to block it completely.
Just block it in the router.
