How can I check for dead CPU?

Hey guys, first off, sorry if this is in the wrong place.

I've just built a new budget rig. Bought all new components except my CPU (AMD Phenom II x4) and when I fired it up. All my case fans spin up, my CPU cooler (H60) spins up, HDD spins up, optical drive spins up and I can open and close the tray. My HD 7770 spins up, however nothing comes up on my monitor. No motherboard beeps, nothing.

I've tried using different RAM in different slots, tried a different graphics card, still the same. This leads me to believe that it is either the board or the CPU. The CPU came out of my old board that went bang. Is it possible that when the old board blew, it took the CPU with it? Anything I'm missing? Is it worth me ordering a new CPU?

All the cables are connected and everything is seated properly.

Thanks for your help guys and gals :)

Thanks for your help man! but the problem has seemed to have just gone away. I tried to boot it before I took the CPU out etc and it just started up. Going to chalk that one up to the PC fairies I think :)
