How can I connct laptop to monitor

I have a LCD monitor how do i connect it to laptop. I have put the vga on laptop to vga on viewconic v171s got no display.

I think you need to go into your graphic card properties then monitor tab and select the second monitor, there should be two monitors showing, number 1 for the laptop and number 2 for the slave screen. Give that a try, it won't hurt and I think its how you do it.
