I don't have a 360 or the cables yet but is it possible to split the audio from the visual to suit a set up where the TV is on one side of the room and the amp on the other? Or am I just going to need to buy a huge extension for one of them?
How can I do this with a 360?

It is possble, but the component cable that comes with the 360 doesn't give you much to play with, so if you're wanting to split it more than a metre or two, you'll need some phono extention cables if you're running 2 channel stereo, or just one big long optical cable if you're running digital surround.
