How Can I Fix This?!

Hey everyone,

Basically as I have explained before, I have terrible internet, I am now going to get Satellite broadband which is 18mb download and 6mb upload.

The bad things are:
I am a big gamer on xbox live and they have said about latency travelling takes around 6-8ms.. for it to go to my xbox and is not good for first person shooter games. Like COD and Fifa.. is there anyway I can setup like a delayed network or something like that for it to be fine for me to play on?

I hope to see some answers. Will be very pleased if there is a fix for this!

Thanks!

I know what you mean, but a big thing is online gaming, it's critical for this mate, anychance of any fixes at all?

Unless you can change the laws of physics or get the satellites into a much, much lower orbit then there is absolutely nothing that can be done to reduce the pings on a satellite connection

i used to work for an sat ISP, we fitting and testing sat broadband for customers. believe me the ping are really awful. couldnt play any FPS games very well. oftenly disconnect/boot out of servers due very high ping. sometime over 2000ms. on good day - 300-400ms still rubbish

Ping will be absolutely dreadful for gaming. It'll be much worse than the delay we had with 56k modems, and that was bad enough. I think you can forget online gaming of any kind really. I suppose it's alright for downloads and web browsing but anything that relies on low latency is not suited to Satellite internet. Sorry.

You could still go for it if you keep your existing internet for gaming and the satellite for everything else.

If I were you and I'd just discovered it was high latency then I'd cancel it before they arrive and install.

Where do you live? Does everyone in your area have terrible broadband?

My mum lives about 6k from the exchange, with some very dodgy looking lines, but manages to get 512-1024kbps with a ping of about 40-60 on BT ADSL. Not using the BT router though. Perfectly stable for gaming

Well basically, I am a big youtuber. I want to live stream which will help me on youtube a lot! This is a main reason, uploading and download videos, streaming all that is another plus side, but cause of this terrible latency its very annoying. So basically I am stuffed for good internet for along ass time, as they reckon 2-3 years then ill be in a area where they get fibre optic done, any other ideas?

move over to MMORPGS, more lag friendly :).

Seriously tho, I don't think there is much to be done.

Have you looked into using a 3G connection for internet access? I'm not sure what the speeds are like but the latency should be a bit better and there are people who use 3G for all of their internet needs.

Wont be enough for the usage that I need, and speeds are just like 2mb.. not great, any other options? This speed atm is a disaster.
