Hiya,

I've got a laptop that's broken and I'm going to claim on the household insurance for it, but I want to insist that the new one has a screen that is as good quality as the one that is being replaced so I would like to find out what type of panel is in mine.

The laptop is an HP Compaq NX7000.

As reviewed here:

HP Press release here says:

http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/newsroom/press/2003/030618d.html

The widescreen display is 20 percent brighter, features 33 percent wider viewing angles and includes an improved contrast ratio compared to traditional notebook displays. The nx7000 also is 20 percent wider than traditional 15-inch notebook displays, providing users the additional screen space they need to be even more productive.

But doesn't say the panel type:

I know its a WSXGA+ screen with a resolution of 1680x1050.

But it has much better viewing angles on it than most of the laptops that I've seen. It seems that no matter what angle you look at it from it always looks good, instead of getting washed out etc.

The laptop is not booting so I don't know how I can find out what panel is in the machine. Does anyone know?

Thanks,

G

no insurer will have the technical staff on hand to ensure that your replacement computer has a display panel of a specific type.

at worst, they'll say "it's widescreen, that's the same right?" and at best they'll just give you the cash.
Telling them you want a laptop with an S-MVA panel will just cause a large amount of headscratching.

If you really want to determine the panel type, find out who manufactured the panel (and possibly the model number) and start googling.
