I need one to apply for a job. I am pretty good with pc's, hence being a member of these forums. Can you get one online or something?

Just lie. It's what all the coolest and most awesome people in the world do.

You could also say you have a Polar Bear for a pet and like to go shooting in Alaska, 10 times a year.

Up yourself a bit, the 'ard man's way. ;) :p

There's a course to learn and exams, I doubt you can get one 'quickly'
Yup.
I know my University does it, so I'd recommend looking at your local Uni or college.

Doesn't look like the most fun course for those who already know a fair bit about PCs though :/

Hmm problem is the job aplication has to be in for Friday... could I just say I have one? Im pretty confident I can show them I'm pc literate. I build them for starters and its just about showing people how to use em.

It's not. I used to teach it.

It's basic modules - one in foundation of pc's, other in knowing your computer, then powerpoint, excel, word, Internet and Access.

You can go to any centre that does the testing and ask to do just the tests but as many are government funded they will want you to do the whole course.

If you wanted to do it in one go, the course and one exam a day would take you around a week and depending on your circumstances cost you anything from nothing to £100. TBH you wouldn't even get confirmation within that time.

On the whole though, although the concepts are easy for anyone who knows about computers, there are several tricky questions in there that I have seen engineers fail on (because they just don't have to talk about what a monitor size is in centimetres in real life  or similar). Passmark is around 75/80%. Personally I'd not lie about it cos it's not a great idea to get off on the wrong foot, and if they do check it up you'll be out on your ear.

Tell them that you've taken advice on this and that the ECDL is actually for those with less computer knowledge than you, but you'd be happy to do it if they want you to. That way they'd probably pay for it too!

Cheers thats some very good advice and I think I'll follow it. If I manage to get an interview im sure i could swing it. Its a job of my dreams tbh. :)

We did ours at my school, i didnt realise they actually meant something  .

Like Haly said, it's quite basic, so if you know how to use the Office suite then you should be able to do it fairly quickly without much learning; it was only the access test that I found difficult as i never use it.

yeah im fully conversant in Microsoft office, used to use excel/word/visio etc everyday in my previous job.

Apart from access also i never use it lol.
