Hi all,

The answer to the question "how can i get tv on my HTPC" is not as easy as you would think, Basically at the moment i have Virgin media for my tv as i am unable to get any sort of good freeview picture where i live due to living in a "dip" of some sort, Also this is not going to change according to the feeeview people and virgin media.

So with this in mind how can i get tv on my HTPC so i can use it as a PVR? do they do a Cable Tv card, Am i going to have to get myself a satellite dish and go Freesat or is it worth buying a good freeview aerial fitted to my roof hoping that it will give me a strong enough signal?

There are Cable tuner cards (DVB-C) but these will only recieve FTA channels - most likely anything on your Virgin box you can get without having the card in.

Sat wise, you can get DVB-S(1/2) cards which will recieve any FTA satellite channels - not just those you get on FTA Sky, but ones from other sat's (if you move your dish) and HD channels.

Google for the BlackGold 6 in 1, seems to be a good card.

You could also get an aerial company in to give you a quote on getting freview and nail them down as to it actually working reliably. They should then do a decent job and fit the appropriate antenna for the area plus any head mast amps needed etc.

so if i am reading this correctly, if i get a dvb c card then i should be able to get all the channels i currently pay for on virgin?
