How Can I Make My IP Appear From The US

Okay I've got all the tools, I've just never done something like this before so I need some help on a high level of what I need to do.

I just moved to the UK from the US and found many of my favorite resources are blocked. The Pirate Bay, Pandora, even Hulu Plus, it was a real let down! I found a work around for TPB but for Pandora and more importantly Hulu Plus, I used those on a daily basis. I can only imagine I'm going to run into other issues as well.

What I'm looking for is a permanent fix. I know I can use proxies, and VPNs for my computers but for devices like my Roku and Xbox I need a solution at the DNS level. I've still got friends and family in the US, and it would be worth the money just to have an internet setup I pay monthly for that I could use to route to the UK like my own private VPN.

The most important thing is I don't want to sacrifice my speed. I've got a router that's got Tomato on it, it's like DD-WRT, which lets me do some really cool tweaks. I know the answer is staring me in the face, I'm just not sure what I need to do how to setup my router to make this happen. If anyone can help, or link me to any resources that would be great!

Thanks for that link Scott! Two things.. does it work for your devices like Xbox and Roku? And then do you notice a hit is your speed or is it still pretty fast?

It works on xbox, don't have a roku but I'd imagine it would (works on wd tv and Apple TV)

Never seen any hit in speed either.

Hmm I'm looking at UnBlockUS and issue is I've got a BT Hub 4.0, looks like you're unable to change the DNS settings. Can I simply plug my Tomato router into it and change it's settings, or do I have to replace the BT Hub? I ask because it's really my in-laws, and I don't want to screw up his connection. If I can plug my own thing in I doubt he'll care, but I don't think he want's me replacing his gear.

you could just change the dns on each individual device like i do. i have unblockUS set up on ps3, ps4, xperia table z, htc one on wifi and my pc.

Yeah, I change each device so specific devices you can keep.

For example my Xbox, WD TV, Apple TV are all through Unblock-US

Then my PC, iPad are using normal DNS for UK netflix etc.

However, I believe you can attach another router but I don't think it would work, as I'm fairly sure you'd need to set your DNS and DHCP server to the main router (BT Hub)?

Not 100% though.

I use this, pretty much bulletproof and for approx £3 a month you can't go wrong.

What is the latency like on it?

I've tried other proxies in the past and they're agonisingly slow. Like 10 secs to load a page, sometimes timing out completely.

If I were trying to do the same thing and it was very very important to me, I'd look at a linode VPS in their New York datacentre and setting up my own VPN

I only use it on my Samsung TV/Xbox to allow me to access Netflix USA content, seems fine for that application.

I think you can get a free trial so OP should just try it and find out.
