Hi all

first of all I hope iv posted in the correct section.

Basically I have two user accounts on my computer 1. for me ( Admin) 2. my newphew ( standard account)

Now since I built my computer and iv installed software obviously it also shows up in my nephews Start Menu and on his desktop
Now I do not want everything showing up on my newphews start menu and desktop as their are software I don't want him to use such as overclocking tools, configs, etc

Now everything already installed currently, is their a way I can easily remove from his desktop and start menu so it only appears on my account and not his please.
Iv heard about permissions but that means literally clicking on every single piece of software doesn't it whivch I don't want to have to do.

thank you

if you want to remove something from the start menu right click on it and go to delete.

it will remove that folder from the start menu and then you can delete the desktop short cut if it creates one but will need to be done under his account and not yours.

when you install programs you should get the option for this user only or all users

this is for windows 7\8.1

Install any programmes as admin, setup his account as a guest, when he logs in he shouldn't be able to use any of your programmes as he'd need admin rights. Like someone said above, just click on the icon on the start menu and click remove from this list and delete and desktop short cuts.

C:\Users\Public\Desktop
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu

The Desktop and Startup folders for all users

Anything you take out of there will be gone from all user accounts.

C:\Users\USERNAME\Desktop
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu

These folders are the local user folders, you can personalise them for each user.

-Don't go deleting things at random, make sure they're from the correct folder..

Exactly what I was going to say. If you can see the same stuff on both desktops/start menus, then it's probably in All Users or Default Users. If you delete something that is one of those two places, the shortcuts will be gone from both of your profiles.

^Default users is the template that any newly created users will follow.

Some reckless advice in this thread
