How can I share folders to Win boxes with SAMBA, with public folders?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I've got various folders which are shared, and they all need a username and password in order for a Windows machine to connect to the shared folder.

Is it possible to have another shared folder, which needs no username/password to be able to login?

cant you select properties of the folder and allow guest access?
right now read and write access it set to all (same as chmod 777) but the owner is not guest. Does the owner need to be guest?

Yes, you basically set the 'guest ok' parameter in smb.conf for the share you want public.

This guide covers it nicely: http://www.debuntu.org/guest-file-sharing-with-samba
Thanks, I'll have a play around with smb.conf, doesn't sound too hard. :)

Apologies for bumping an old thread, but I haven't had access to the Linux machine until today, and I'm going thru this guide now.

Is it possible to keep certain shares only accessible with a username/password while keeping others public?
