Yo guys,

Basically I want to start my own WISP, I am in a terrible area for broadband of high speeds and would like to know what things I am going to need and get to start this project.

Any replies would be useful, thanks.

Common sense says you'll need at least 2 fast internet pipes, some high end radio kit, some heavy weight network kit with a not too simple config, a billing system, a method of collecting money, watertight contracts and enough users to make the whole thing worthwhile.

So basically what you're telling the guy is don't bother lol.

Correct.

The lease line alone to support something like this is going to be in the ball park of £6k install and then £1k+ / month just to run if he is in the middle of no-where. That's just for one of them.

It'd be cheaper to move house.

It's possible. There are hundreds of similar projects spread across the UK. You need to get the local community on-board. Mark at ISPReview might be able to give you advice.

I was indeed, but did not go for it in the end, the latency was terrible. So I have asked for this and it seems it is just a lot of hassle.

Something I have seen working is getting together with your neighbors to get a sort of petition going so that you can contact an isp and show them that there is lots of interest in your area for higher speed broadband. You would however need a good few people to make that worth while to the isp.
