How can I stop dogs from defecating on my garden?

I have a problem with dogs dumping on my garden. My garden fence is set back about 6 meters from the roadside. I have no desire to move the fence. I'm fed up with slinging dog turds away before cutting the grass or letting my little girl play on that bit.

I have so far been unable to identify the culprit. What dog deterrents work well? Anyone got any good ideas?

No shooting (as I don't know which dog it is) and no catcopter (as I don't have access to a cat).

Ta :)

Is he just trolling the anti-cat thread?

With dogs its easier, watch for the owner, see him with the dog and then threaten to kill him if he lets his dog **** on your lawn again :p

A few weeks ago we pull up on our driveway and we have a tree with woodchip surrounding it and a dog proceeds to crouch and **** on our woodchip, the owner comes running down the street shouting "stop, no" yet it still happened.

I stood there to ensure she cleaned it up, must have been so embarrassing for her to have to clean it up whilst I was watching, but god it annoyed my girlfriend.

In answer to your problem though get a Catcopter.

So a dog owner tried to stop their dog, didn't manage but ensured that she cleaned it up without you needing to say anything and you made sure you embarrassed and probably intimidated her and your GF still got bristly. You may want to find some real problems.

I didn't intimidate her at all, I just took a little longer to get out the car and go inside the house to make sure it was cleaned up, my girlfriend didn't say anything to her but it annoyed her.

Not saying they are real problems but the fact the owner was miles away from her dog and if she was close with it she could have stopped it doing it's business on our garden all together.

Most people with dogs are extremely conscientious about it, yet a lot of people have a sneering mistrust. Some thug (and I'm not for a moment suggesting you behaved this way :)) was hateful and intimidating to my wife when one of our dogs went on the pavement in front of his house, my wife was already clearing it up when he started ranting at her.

I totally get your point and both of us have a love for dogs and understand the random nature of dogs taking a dump in the most awkward of places, and we would never intimidate an owner or anything like that.

I was just trying to highlight how embarrassing it must have been for her cleaning it up just as we pulled up on the driveway, as it's just one of those awkward things (picking up poo) to do and doubly so infront of someone when it's in their garden.
