I've got a license key stuck on my old laptop. I know it's for XP home, but is there anyway to find out what version of XP it's for, like OEM etc?

Basically, I want to reinstall but aren't sure what XP disc to use.

Does this detect the current install only, or can I feed it my license key?

The Windows installation is no more, so I can't check to see what it is.

if you have some xp home disks to try, simply put the cd in the drive on any windows xp machine, start running setup from within windows and one of the first things it does is ask you for the product key. try your key and see if it works and then cancel setup. this won't touch your existing install. :)

I'm pretty sure XP formats the drive before asking for the product key.

Can it revert everything if you cancel later on?
