How can I work out how much bandbandwidth I eat?

My provider has changed its connection plans. Currently I pay 17.99 for 1MB and now they are offering up to 8MB for 14.99. There are no genuine caps on usage, except a sneaky fair usage policy which states that during peak hours (6pm-12pm and weekends) per month you can only use up to 20Gig of bandwidth. Now I have no idea how much bandwidth I use.

I spend probably a few hours a night on the net, play a lot of BF2 and a few other online games. Any guesses or perhaps tools to work out if 20gig will be enough?

Lots of ISPs have a calculator like Zen's here

or if you want to find out how much you use per month/day you can use Net Traffic meter. Some routers can utilise special software as well that I dont know how to use.

DuMeter is good, gives you total daily weekly and monthly actual and predicted figures for up, down and combined. Free 30 day trial should be enough to give you an idea.

Something like PRTG Traffic Grapher would give you the types of traffic you use and how much BW used for web browsing FTP Torrents etc.

DU Meter is a great application but remember if you're using multiple PCs you'll need to install it on each one and sum the totals.

Or if you have a router that does SNMP monitoring, use something like PRTG (as suggested), or better still RRDGraph:

At work, yes, my piddly home router, probably not :p

Lots of suggestions, thanks. I'll give a few a try once I get out of the office.

My Speedtouch 510v4 Does SNMP and that's ye olde routerith. Haven't been arsed to play with it because i'm on unlimited Demon 2meg, but it's not on the web config, some older routers you might have to telnet in to get hold of the more clever features.

Don't Demon provide data usage stats from within your online control panel?

Plenty of home routers do SNMP (including my Cisco 877) :p
What router are you using?

I used to have a DG834G which was quite nice, but that litterally got blow to pieces during a lightning storm

I've got some crazy Linksys jobbie at the moment. Even though Cisco/Linksys are the same thing (in some way) its not brilliant and doesn't exactly have a tonne of features.

I could always borrow a Cisco router from work, but I think they would notice :D
