hi,

I have tested linux based OS (Ubuntu) but I think one important thing should be improved to challenge windows.

1. Offer better compatibality for hardware and software

You dived headfirst into a *nix installation from Windows?

Ohh dear... :D

I don't want dual boot, because I want to stick with Ubuntu when testing at my university and it's perfect and light OS for me....but it just didn't support my printer at home .....;), I have try some suggesttions but failed..

And that would be why I spent ages ripping apart drivers to get a graphics card to work with Windows 7. Ubuntu? It just worked - I didn't do anything.

Horses for courses as they say. Is there any popcorn left? :)

yeah, but many external hardwares like printers , modems , routers still windows only stuffs....

I hope more hardwares and softwares are supported by Ubuntu in future plus they (Canonical) got increasing partners for Ubuntu OS for now....

I'm curious as what printer he was having problems installing ?

Ubuntu picks up most printers these days although you do need to pay attention to the wording for the drivers..

ie:

Say you have a canon printer and it's picked it up.. The wording opposite states recommended driver.

That almost certainly IS NOT the right driver.. You haven't paid attention to the model No. that was highlighted.

Try scrolling down and select your model No. THEN click recommended driver.

my printer is Lexmark X3480 , I have try all recommended and then, I googled it and found that my printer was not supported in Ubuntu.
