How can PS3 run UT3?

I went to Game on saturday to buy my nephew some psp games for his birthday and on an impulse i ended up buying a playstation 3 bundle....no i dont have money to burn, i 'had' an overdraft lol

Suffice to say i am now very disappointed with it when i see all the comparisons to xbox 360. The games on the xbox seem to look far better with nice lighting effects and textures etc, not to mention the AA running on xbox that seems to be non-existant on ps3.

I looked into this and discovered that xbox has a revision of the new radeon chip out wheras ps3 uses a last gen nvidia card. If tahts the case and games already seem to run at dire framerates on the ps3, how can it possible run UT3 when that comes out?

Afaik the gfx in ps3 is not directx10 and the unreal 3 engine is gonna be power hungry i just am feeling really down at the moment about my purchase. Game wont let me return console because its opened or i would have got cash back n gone for the xbox 360.

Does anyone have any information on this that might cheer me up, something i have overlooked maybe? Just go to gamespot and look at the comparisons they did, or look at darkness screenshots in another thread on this forum to see just how bad the ps3 gfx are compared to xbox, not to mention it tends to run at double the FPS :(

Shouldnt Game let me return a console within 10 days? Anyone have any tips or advice on how i could get my moneyback? otherwise i guess i could try selling it for 400 on the members forum, cost me over 500 on satuday wtih extra game and accidental insurance cover so would be quite cheap?

Cheers guys.

I'm sure it will run fine, don't know what your worrying about

Can you imagine trying to play UT3 at 1080 on a pc wtih a 7800 256meg gfx card? Thats all i can think of.

Also the ps3 seems incapable of doing the nice lighting effects and AA on their games if the current line up are anything to go by so game will look horrendous compared to 360 and pc no?

Admittedly i only have 4 games for ps3 so far, resistance, motorstorm, fight night and ninja gaiden. But i can clearly see the jaggies in *** games and my friends copy of fight night on the 360 looks so much more immersive.

Guess i just had too high expectations.

The PS3 is not Directx10, nor is the 360. Look at other threads here - there are some cracking games on the way for the PS3. Some of the current PS3 titles are just bad ports from the 360.

I hope so man i gonna be reading through the forum today, tired of the threads on gamespot etc its just flamewars between diff console owners.

This is first console i had since i got original playstation as i spend my time gaming on pc etc, just fancied a change wtih new consoles and tired of upgrading pc constantly to keep up with the new games and be able to be competative in multiplayer.

Thanks guys i am feeling a lot better after some of these comments, so nice to get helpful constructive comments rather than 'zomg fanboi go die in a fire' type comments.

I have just moved house so currently have no internet as waiting on BT putting my line in which is partly what prompted the buy in the first place, boredom :)

As soon as i get my internet sorted i am going to download these demos and have a real good go on the system, just wish could view gametrailers.com etc at work, damn their firewall and restrictions!

I would have thought that Game should give you your money back. I know they put stickers on all of there games to tell when theyve been opened but surely not giving you your money back is against some rights that you have as a consumer. I dont exactly know much about this but ive read some stuff by people on here who seem to know exactly what there talking about but i thought you had a right within 14 days to return a product for what ever reason and recieve full compensation :/

I called them and spoke to a manager who told me he could offer me 200 in cash or a 250 trade in. But as i just spent 500 on it less than a week ago i am not willing to do that. I was fairly sure should be able to take back within 10 days too :(

to be honest though i think i have just let all these sites etc mess up my perspective and ps3 should improve wtih time so i am actually feeling pretty happy about the purchase after reading this thread and my other one on the psn :)

Guess its just a lot of money which made me worry i had made a mistake, i dont exactly have 500 to throw around. Not too fussed about lack of games at the moment as ninja gaiden, fight night and resistance will keep me busy until i get my net up and running then will enjoy them even more multiplayer .

Some of the 360 ports do have pretty poor jaggies n stuff but does it really ruin your gaming experience? Obviously frame rate drops would be annoying but I really don't tend to go looking for jaggies but can obviousley see them when pointed out. My advice would be to just play the game and try not to let the jaggies on poor ports bother you. Both systems have poor ports tbh, has anyone tried plaing Blazing Angels on both 360 and PS3???

To be honest the jaggies dont bother me overly much when playing, its just the fact that i expected the same performance seen on 360 that was all.

However the frame rate drops in games seem to be noticable, as do the lack of lighting on a game like fight night. Seems like a whole different game lol

Yeah the pc comparison is a bad one i am just so used to having to upgrade my pc for hundreds of £ every year that i cant get the whole outdated hardware thing outta my head lol.

Gonna give the ps3 some time to develop anyway, and will try out some of these demos once i am online with it.
