How can someone do this!!

I dont think anyone can justify the actions of the driver.

However, background information does help provide context.

Help provide context???

Let me run this through

Driver gets caught up in traffic jam due to idiot cyclists blocking the road.
Turns off at next junction and finds alternative route home.
or
Driver gets caught up in traffic jam due to idiot cyclists blocking the road.
Driver gets aggravation from cyclists, driver stops and then turns off at next exit.
or
Driver gets caught up in traffic jam due to idiot cyclists blocking the road.
Driver gets attacked by cyclists, driver stops, locks doors and calls the police.
or
Driver gets caught up in traffic jam due to idiot cyclists blocking the road.
Driver gets attacked by cyclists, driver gets out and wraps cycle round head of attacker.
or
Driver gets caught up in traffic jam due to idiot cyclists blocking the road.
Driver gets attacked by cyclists, driver gets out to wrap cycle round head of attacker but instead gets stabbed / run over.

Right at the bottom of a million and one combinations of possible outcomes of the situation is "Plough a car flat out through a street full of innocent people, possibly killing every single one of them.

Context does not a jot of difference make IMO

What happened at this meet is plainly attempted murder and some here appear to condone it. Shameful.

Nobody condones it but there are two different sides to every story when looking at what provoked it.

I find the quote you've posted unlikely, this is what his lawyer said:

After Neis was taken into custody by police, his attorney, Luis Fernando Coimbra Albino, stated that the driver was acting in self-defense after several cyclists threatened him and his son and assaulted his car.

Whilst I appreciate we've no idea of his lawyer is correct either, it wasn't exactly a country spring bicycle ride with flowers, therefore a polite 'There are some kids up ahead' is unlikely to have been how the conversation went.

You simply dont mow down cyclists because you are late for a meeting - nobody is that unhinged. Something must be sparked this off. Nothing can justify his actions, but perhaps something will come to light that might explain his actions.

And your view of what these people do would be ........?

To be fair, they're allowed their freedom of expression and car drivers are not the only ones on the road. You have a shed load of responsibility driving a 1-2ton hunk of steel around and what is shown in that vid isn't responsible.

Loads of cyclist I see break he rules and tbh they should be punished more for it. But nothing gives a car driver the right to mow a load of people down.

Jeez, simply stopping, waiting a few minutes and diverting your route would get you out of the jam, why do people need to be so impatient.

Unfortunately a few discussions seem to imply that they are planning a much bigger gathering next month as a type of retaliation.

And your view of what these people do would be ........?

Does it matter? You make it sound like they deserved it! Your attitude reminds me of the people I fear when cycling on the roads.

What makes me laugh is the people that actually cycle to work, bike couriers etc etc hate these scene/hipster idiots that turn up to events like this because they claim that it just gives motorists even more reason to dislike cyclists and they are the ones who then get blamed the following weeks despite not participating themselves.

Also if this happens local to me I'm getting in the car with a GF and having her fake having a baby with a pillow up her dress and what not, see if they will move out the way in an emergency.

Actually no - not in the way these guys do it. This is why they have had numerous conflicts with police. Riding in the way they do is illegal, it is the equivilent of us lot getting in cars and just randomly driving around on the wrong side of the road.

People, if you live three miles or something from your place of work, buy a bike this summer and use it to commute. You'll love it . Just don't do it in the middle of the road.

I wonder if the judge will see the Golf as a mitigating factor. It's understandable that he wanted to complete his journey as quickly as possible.

Probably a stuck accelerator pedal.

If only everything in life was as a reliable as a VW.

Shock horror as idiot driver meets idiot cyclists. Though I find it funny the driver alleges his car was attacked. People don't just start kicking the crap out of your car because they feel like it. Unless of course the cyclists are as unhinged as the car driver. GOTO start.

If it was a Prius then there certainly could have been mitigating circumstances :D

Anyhow, that's a horrible thinig to do if he did just lose it, but then again we don't kow what happened in the lead up!

but then again we don't kow what happened in the lead up!

It probably went something like this;

1: Testosterone fuelled motorist gets stuck behind cyclists.
2: Testosterone fuelled motorist starts honking and shouting.
3: Testosterone fuelled motorist realises he's going to be somewhere a couple of minutes late.
4: Testosterone fuelled motorist decides he's going to aggressively move through the crowd.
5: Testosterone fuelled motorist is now riding up the chuff of and into cyclists.
6: Cyclists lash out at unnecessary manoeuvre, kicking vehicle.
7: Testosterone fuelled motorist realises he is surrounded by a bunch of angry bean eating unwashed hippies, panics, floors it.
8: Bean eating unwashed hippies are scattered to and fro as captain carnage rides through the pack, the testosterone overload and adrenaline induced panic causes Ride of the Valkyries to play in his head spurring him on to more carnage.
9: Once out of the melee, realises what he has done. Adrenaline comedown is a bitch.
10: Ditches car and goes into hiding.

If this was a one time thing then I could understand people saying just deal with it and wait / drive a different route / whatever. But if it's every month then the novelty would quickly wear thin for me and I would get pretty angry.

However obviously the answer is not to drive through a load of people, however annoying and selfish they are being... :(
