How can someone do this!!

Congratulations idiot cyclists, maybe now you'll understand how much people hate you.

Group on push bikes whose sole reason to exist is to hack people off in heavy iron boxes in "getting injured when you hack people off" shocker.

Don't insult other members.

Plain sigh at video title "Driver tries to kill cyclists...."

Context is missing from everywhere it seems.

No justification, but that's too many people on a public highway without proper coordination. Is it even sanctioned by local authority?

Not surprised to see something like this happen, if someone sees red on what is obviously not an entirely well received meeting then go figure.

Pointless sitting there screaming how ridiculous it is to of happened, how nobody should ever do it, how unthinkable it is - It did happen, worse has happened, driver should NOT of done it, meet has NOT done much in the way of mitigating risk.

Fail all round.

Short of something akin to the rape scene in Mad Max I doubt there would be anything so terrible that it justifies driving through a bunch of people..

Exactly, context is all well and good, but unless the driver was actually having his or his son's life put in danger then there is no excuse or justification. Unless the driver was confronted by a mob of pitchfork wielding maniacs, in the UK he would be looking at major jail time. (or some community service based on other threads  )

His life wont have been in danger so its quite clear that his actions were reckless and wrong and hopefully he will be punished by law.

That said, I don't think we should fall into the trap of thinking it was a load of innocent law abiding cyclists, either.

agreed and after reading up about the event it's likely that they were out to annoy people.

or reverse?

Which is why my point on the last page is much more plausible. He couldn't reverse. He'd already pushed his way to deeply into the crowd and found himself surrounded by angry bean eating hippies who didn't appreciate his bullying behaviour. They let him know their particular feelings on the subject, probably by slapping and kicking his car as it pushed through, he panicked and floored it.

On February 25, 2011, a car driver collided with around 20 cyclists who were participating in the Critical Mass in Rua José do Patrocinio in Porto Alegre, in southern Brazil. 150 people were taking part in the event. Dozens of bicycles were damaged, 15 people were injured and 8 were taken to the emergency room. The driver left the scene of the incident. Demonstrators remained on the street demanding that the driver be found and arrested. The driver was later identified as 47-year old Ricardo José Neis. After Neis was taken into custody by police, his attorney, Luis Fernando Coimbra Albino, stated that the driver was acting in self-defense after several cyclists threatened him and his son and assaulted his car

Seriously if this is real

However, for a camera that is picking up such good audio, how come you can't hear the Golfs engine as it speeds past? Is it electric?

At least if he reversed they would have more chance of seeing him coming though?

He could have done all sorts of things. But he didn't. Irrational behaviour by extremely wound up and irate motorists is nothing new. Irrational behaviour by panicked people is nothing new either.

Road tax is based on emissions not the use of the road, deal with it.

Uh....that's not strictly true, is it?

For UK cars registered after a certain date (March '01 is it?) - yes, the cost of VED is based on carbon dioxide emissions. For cars before that date and after January 1973, it's based on engine size. And for cars prior to Jan '73, the cost of a tax disc is bog all.

If you're going to climb up onto a high horse, please don't post something wildly inaccurate :) kthxbai
