Me and a mate live 3 doors from each other and he is able to get a 2 meg service (through bt phone line) and I can only get 512k. Can someone explain why this could be?

Surley 3 doors (about 30 meters) shouldn't make any difference?

I was also looking at my line stats and they dont look too good:-

Noise Margin
Upstream 12 dB
Downstream 11 dB

Attenuation
Upstream 63 dB
Downstream 63 dB

Is this whats causing the problem and is there anything I can do to help it?

Thanks
Chris

3 doors away means nothing. Your two lines could be routed to the exchange in 2 completely different paths therefore explaining the two different levels of service between yours and the other line.

Two years ago i was told i couldnt have broadband at my address because of a bad line so i got dial up :(
one year later i caould get broadband 512k :)
now can get 2.5meg with bt max :D
go figure

The really annoyinging thing is I live in one of the biggest housing estates in europe and everyone I know who live here can get faster speeds. It seems to be just me that is stuck at 512 :

Cant get NTL or anything either :(
