Hi Guys

I have this online store that has been online for 21 months now. Unfortunately i haven't really been that interested in it. I would work on and off on it during these last 21 months while i am working in an office job. In 21 months the store has only had 32,000 page views and a very small amount of sales.

I also am in debt of £2500 now and i really need to make some new sales.

I have been down the route of online advertising like using froogle, and i used google ads to bring some click revenue to my site to pay for web hosting, but i stopped using that as you don't hardly make any money.

So I am looking to start flyer/leaflet advertising, i am looking to go for A4 color double sided laminated flyers. I have seen some pretty good deals for 5000 copies on a load of websites.

I am looking to start off by delivering them myself door to door. I wonder if you guys know any companies that will deliver the flyers for you? You know like inside magazines and newspapers, do you know how expensive that is?

I also heard of companies that just deliver the flyer on it's own, do you know of any?

Any help much appreciated

Many thanks

Loads of people sell stuff on ebay/amazon and I think even play does it now and link there site within the item. Or develop some spyware to redirect all sites to yours! :p

Marketing an on line store by flyer will generate few buyers. In 2-3 days your flyer will be kitty litter or someting similar.

Royal Mail or local newspapers will deliver flyers.

You need to spend some time looking at your site design in order to check it's appeal to search engines.

Make changes and see what effect they have to your rankings. This takes time though.

Google ad words can work and you can control your outlay. I have 1 client that spends £10,000 a month on adwords but generates in excess of £100,000 in income each month.

Also ensure your business stands out from the crowd.

What is your "Unique selling point"? Why should people buy from you?

Some points to consider

I wouldn't go about advertising an online venture using real-word material, unless its services were really based in the local area.

many thanks for your replies

I know that a flyer can turn to litter extremely quickly, but my store has a really good name and is very catchy, great looks, just not enough advertising and where i am located my products are perfect for my local customers. I would like to try with flyers and see how i go, i guess if i make the flyer as catchy looking as my website it may just work, i mean i am sure at least 20 people out of 5000 flyers may even buy my products which is not actually that bad.

you're more likely to annoy others than generate customers by adding to the amount of junk through letter boxes.

Advertise online or set yourself up on ebay/amazon etc and then put in a link to your shops address, include it on your invoices, postal documents etc.

Banking on sales from 1 customer per every 250 is quickly going to leave you further in debt :(

Why not try radio advertising, or the local paper?

but isn't radio advertising and local paper a lot more expensive way of advertising. I mean how many times a day are they going to say visit this guys store and how many days for and how much would they charge for that?

Then having a catchy advert in the local paper for even a month would cost loads i imagine, and wouldn't it be in the classified section?

Without giving too much away what is your trade/business.

Do not publish the web address, that breaks the rules.

In my house flyers go straight in the recycling bin.

Make and distribute some polo shirts with the logo and url.

Either that or go old skool sandwich board style

Cheap or expensive, or both.

This market is potentially world wide. you have a huge demographic to play with.

Unfortunately there are some huge players in the market already, so what do you do that they do not?

how does your pricing compare with theirs for similar/identical products

This is definitely an on line market and not flyer driven.

well the products are all expensive well except just one or two are a fraction of the cost.

Right now the market is not huge for the products i am selling, nobody is trying to cut each other. Not yet, not for at least another summer.

That's what i would like to try flyer advertising because it could get the word out?

I'm in a similar situation, I currently run a local store which I took over in Jan, I'm really trying to get more advertising especially the web site as this will hold all our company info, you can get more info on a web site than a flyer.

I'm hoping a supermarket receipt advertising run I'm working on during the summer will help, they print over 21k receipts a week, but it cost over £800 for 3 months.

I'm currently trying to get it listed high on google by keywords, however this seems tedious as they only crawl it every 7 days or so... :( I've uploaded a sitemap but they dont seem to have used it yet, any ideas? (sorry to hi-jack thread but this could help OP as well)

Also i forgot to mention, at one point i was using google ad words which got me listed, you know when someone searches on different search engines for a product that i sell they see a link in the sponsored links column on the right side of the google search, but this gave me a huge bill of £30 a month. I tried froogle which is free but that wasn't very good either.

ebays good, set up an account in your shops name, use links of items to your shop ect ect. Sale some items or people might just click on your shop link in the description and buy directly.
