In the good old days you could sit there with a yagi and a spectrum analyser with a demod output and listen all you want.

IF you have nothing to hide you wouldn't care if your phone is tapped.

Why does this keep getting said? So you'd be happy for me to listen to intimate conversations with your girl or get your bank details if you're using a card to make a payment over the phone etc?

Its the same school of thought as the old "Only pirates should be concerned when pirate websites get taken down without due process". If people want to live in cloud cuckoo land, and think that abuse of state power isn't a problem as long as its only used against bad people, then let them.
