Hi,

Just upgraded from 2 mb to 8 mb. I'm about 1KM from my exhange, and best speed i seem to get is about 6.7mb ( 880ish kb/sec )

Looking at my router I get this:

DSL Status
Connection Status Connected
Upstream Rate (Kbps) 768
Downstream Rate (Kbps) 8000
US Margin 10
DS Margin 9
Modulation GDMT
LOS Errors 0
DS Line Attenuation 35
US Line Attenuation 44
Path Mode Fast Path

Seems strange i get connected at 8000 rate but don't get the speed, any possible ideas ??

Thanks

Well, those speeds are certainly nothing to grumble over. I am 300m from the exchange and can only pull 800kb+ during the early hours of the morning.

Anway to your question, well exchange congestion and ISP central contention could be slowing you down, exspecialy during the weekend. Possibly even a slightly lower IP profile that you should have. If you can actualy download @ 800kb+ during the weekend I would say your sitting pretty.

Also the ADSL Max small print says = Actual download speeds will be no higher than 7150Kb

So even if you sync @ 8mb if your ISP does'nt have the capacity to supply everyone with 8mb then slowdown occurs. (least thats my guess on whats going on)

im 0.80km from my local exchange and i get 13.7/14mbs out of my 16mbs connection

it all depends on the exchange distance and how old your landline is. plus some isps rate
moves up n down at peek hours. but i would be happy with 5mbs+

also having a long extension to the main box in side the house doesn't help. so if you can keep
the modem / router as close to the main box. and that might up the rate.

The speed you see is the sync speed of the line, the actual rate you get depends on the IP profile applied, which is always lower. The 6.7 isnt that bad really for the connection speed your on tbh.

Interleaving is turned of as well which lowers thoughput a bit

No it doesn't. Enabling interleaving would reduce throughput because it caps the maximum sync rate below what it's currently at.

8000kbps sync rate ties up to a 7Mbps IP profile, so 880kB/s is as much as you're going to get.
