I'm RMA'ing my card to BFG and one of the stipulations is to put the card in a new plain cardboard box, as,

"The original BFG retail box is not suited for shipping."

WTF?!? I can't send it back in that box, but it's alright for you to post it to me in that box. What a joke.

ha lol? i can kinda see a tiny bit why, but that is rather silly.

Lol well I've replied saying basically, thanks will return the card but also mentioned the point about the packaging was a bit daft. :p

EDIT: They're going to spit on my card now arn't they. :( :p

The reason being that graphics cards are NOT shipped in their display boxes, well at least not on their own. They are usually palleted, and in boxes of larger consignments.

I'd stick it all in the original box, and shove that into a larger box with some padding (air pockets/styrofoam/bubblewrap).

Seems a bit odd is this an open admission by BFG that there packaging is not suitable for shipping?, especially when there shipped in pallets of 100, this seems a tad odd, I can sort of see why though.

Tell that to everyone who got a Connect3D X1900 last year.

The horror stories were incredible to say the least.

It was sent to you in its retail box? Don't think I've had one delivery without a substantial outer box or wrapping.

Yup I'm pretty sure it was sent in the box, with one of those platic bags wrapped around the retail box.

I may be wrong, it was Januaray when i bought the card, but I'm 90% sure it arrived like that.

But Ulf, I'm loving that big box idea. Legendary!

Aye, I'll get a box and I have some of those air-pockets. Will just put them around the card.

:)

am i the only one who can think,

if its in the bfg box which has all the bells and whisltes plastered all over it, isnt it likely to go walkies??

Hence send it back in a non-discript brown box, its not likely to get nicked.

Thats my take on it anyways :p

I love how a company we use through work for apple stuff they send us the items in just a cardboard box no padding and when we want to return stuff it states they want at least an inch of padding in the box

Dude, that's terrible, they're not exactly well protected in the retail box. I've watched some of those courier chuck parcels around like a red headed stepchild. One of the firms I use sends stuff out in these massive glued down air bag box things. Serious overkill, but at least its in one piece.

heh, BFG said exactly the same thing to me when returning my motherbaord to them... i actually did post it to them in a mah00sive box inside another mah00sive box... (was about 5'x3'x3' :D) and i made sure every layer had a good 2 or 3 rolls of sellotape used on it too :D

great fun
