How deep for the footings?

How deep should I dig before I add the concrete ?

300mm will easily be enough for that height wall. Make sure you have about 100mm either side of the wall as well.

If you're going to render the wall to get a smooth finish I wouldn't have thought it makes much difference what kind of block you use.

I wouldn't have thought you would have to take them all out as for all you know they could travel across the garden. As long as they are chopped off should be good

The cinder blocks you have pictures are great for building that sort of wall they are designed to be filled once each course is complete, either with mortar or 10mm to dust hard core compacted.

Just cut the roots off, before you put concrete down you will need a bed of hardcore 10mm to dust compacted to give you a stable base.

I've got solid concrete flags with bricks underneath... I'm thinking its a good thing as I can just cover over when I pour the concrete in, can't I?. . Hopefully I don't have to remove them

My mate was saying I should I digged until I reached sand?. .. I'm about 14" down and have put lots of hardcore.. Should I remove and hit the sand level?

Sand? Why would there be sand under your garden?

I don't know... He said I should have dug down to sand level,.. I can take the hardcore out and add sand? Then put the hardcore on top of it... He was saying soil isn't as solid as sand and I should have dug until I reached it...

He's done ground works for 30 years... Feeling abit confused now..... Isn't there always sand below soil?. . I haven't a clue lol

10-18inch fittings will be plenty no need to dig down any deeper.
