How did Mafia 3 compare to the other 2

It stunk bad on release. Loads of bugs like getting stuck in mid air, other graphics appearing in mid air, cars driving in mid air its probably a lot better now its patched but still a poor relation to 1 and 2.

Not deja vu at all really, it's quite a different game.

But It was crap. I couldn't get on with the car physics at all, gun physics, I found the city boring, the cops slightly too good/fast. This isn't good when the missions are very repetitive

It's a completely different game, not only in story etc but also quality.

2 is amazing whilst 3 is very average.

The storyline I thought was quite enjoyable as was the period and it's characters. Gameplay wise it was very repetitive but what stole the show for me was the radio music tracks. Storming down the bayou listening to The Animals was great. It is the weakest game of the series working its way towards Mafia 1 - perhaps the greatest PC game I've ever played.

There are familiar characters from the previous game in Mafia 3, they play a small role though.

I've just finished 3 on the PS4, I quite enjoyed it as just something to play without overly thinking about it. I wouldn't go back, and do all the collectables etc.

1 was the best on PC, it was superb.

It didn't lost all feel of the previous two, ran like a bag of spanners and the gameplay got very repetitive quickly. They should have hopefully fixed the bugs that were in at start when I played, it's a playthrough once and then put it down no replay value.

It's a shame how you can't reproduce the quality of Mafia 1 considering it was made 17 years ago on dev tools and hardware that would now be considered stone age. Apparently engine compile times could take many many hours to complete and if anything went wrong while compiling you had to start again. One of many things that made game dev extremely frustrating and time consuming back then. You really had to earn your wage so to speak.

Not a patch on 2 and especially 1, which I also consider as one of the best games ever.

I couldn't even get into it even though the period/atmosphere was great, it just felt poorly made.

It is flawed and not a masterpiece like the first two, but I still enjoyed it a ton - finished it twice. The writing is great across the board, atmosphere is great, gunplay and stealth is basic but well executed and driving physics with simulation setting is fun as hell.

The issues are some bad sidemissions and bad structure of the main campaign that leads to repetition. I had fun with it but your mileage may vary. Definitely the first game is the best in the series. But sequels are fun too.

IMO nowhere close to Mafia 1 and 2. Daniel Vavra did not work on 3 for starters. I'm sure that name rings a bell if you heard of Kingdom Come!

This 3 was developed by Hangar 13 and published by 2k. Where as 2 were published and developed by 2k.

Mafia 1 was published by Gathering of Developers and developed by Illusion Softworks.

At the time the "technology" in Mafia 1 was immense. Plenty of videos showing what made it a joy to play. Really was a gem.

Just 1 example of what made Mafia 1 great.

Mafia 1 had it all. Probably one of the best features of the game was how the vehicles changed as time progressed through the game. At the start you have wimpy 1920's vehicles and towards the end you have meatier cars that feel great to drive with manual gears.

Mafia 2 was good. The developers spent more time marketing the game with sodding trailers and dlc before the thing even released. Gameplay was solid enough but the entire world was a wasted opportunity - there was literally nothing to do and no free roaming between most missions as I recall.

Sorry about the post that was done on mobile I thought be in a paragraph not lines..

Mafia 2 was good, very. The cars especially felt nice and heavy to drive, shootouts were incredible etc.

it's funny, it is undeniable how incredible Mafia 1 was. That attention to detail is insane, it brought Max Payne level graphics into open world, had completely unique mission design, racing sim level car physics...and was made by a completely newbie team of around 30 twenty year old guys.

But even as disgusting as the lack of this attention to detail in Mafia 3 is, I still enjoyed it if I didn't nitpick it :)

I played a fair bit of Mafia 3, I might even go back to it sometime, still have so much to do..

If you want I can screenshot Mafia 1 with its "technology" if you have requests?
