HOW DID YOUR 1ST BUILD GO

Quick tip - don't bother attaching any cards etc to the motherboard before you screw it into the case otherwise you're in for all kinds of frustration. Unless you have a gigantic case and tiny guts, of course! A friend gave me that tip and I had no problems.

I don't think I had ever heard of anyone plugging in cards into the board before it was installed!!!

Thats deffo a new one on me :D

My first few builds when I was a kid doing work experience at a local store wen't pretty well.
As far as Gaming systems go, my first went together like a dream, and I was teetering between drunk and hungover, and hadn't slept! Have built around 5-7 computers for friends since then, and only problems I have ever encountered were DOA parts (well, one part to be exact).
in all honesty, as werewolf said, it really is far too easy these days, just take your time, be methodical, and insert things gently to avoid damage, you're very unlikely to go far wrong, so long as you use good quality components (plenty of help speccing available here)!

Good luck :)

final note: clamping the CPU down on modern intel motherboards is scary, it feels like too much force, and makes some nasty scratchy noises, but does work!

My first build was flawless. Second build was an absolute headache. Third build went better than the first and then i built two pcs for friends, one went great, the other not so great. Just seems to be a crappy pattern i have gotten use to.

I did what I always do with PC builds - forget to fit the motherboard backplate into the case & have to take the partly built PC out of the case again. :(

Was tough, would have been 11 or 12 years old, around 1993 and couldn't for the life of me get my soundblaster 16b to configure properly. All IRQ problems.

always remember my turbo button, took it from 16mhz to 33, oooooo! lol.

My current PC is my first full
Build. I have rebuilt and messed about with PCs tons of times but never a full build till this year. No real probs so far

You kids have it lucky not having to deal with IRQs and DIP switches. :p

Think it was 1999 and didnt know how to use artic silver. Fired half a tube on chip and put on fan. Never noticed all the silver ooze out the sides lol. Turned it on, big white spark followed by burning. I had to reorder board and chip lol

My first and current build went fairly well, it was the weeks and months after i had a few teething problems and regrets.
For example; i would have got and SSD (got and Agility 3 now) from the off, i would have bought the low profile version of my RAM (Corsair Vengance) so it would fit under the cooler (Akasa Voodoo Venom) and i could use both fans on it, i would have bought quieter fans from the start (Currently looking at).

I am really happy with how it performs its a fantastic bit of kit but i will know for then next time to learn from these mistakes.

Just recently; PSU was DOA, it went on then it went off... =/ Irony was that I had a cheapo PSU that I didn't trust so spent abit extra on a branded on... only to have the cheapo one save the day and the branded one RMA'd.
