How did your work Christmas party go then?

After hearing about this story from Ireland and the chaos that apparently went down at the Stryker’s Christmas party, does anyone have any similar tales?

I can see more and more companies scrapping their Christmas parties in this country as behaviour like this just seems to be getting more and more frequent. Yes, drunk people doing silly things has always been a thing but it seems the younger generation now are more willing to get blackout drunk/drugged up to the point they don’t know what they’re doing.
 
We have two a year, one for Christmas and our summer party. Always at an epic venue, always free booze & food, even the cabs home get paid for. This isn't some little 5 person group either but rather 200+ people, often up to 400. Always a fantastic night out but then this is a Swedish company. I find that it's mainly Brits who make a scene of themselves at Christmas dos.
 
Our 2018 Xmas party resulted in someone getting fired for been too touchy feely (apparently he had prior).

Big do with 250-300 people, hired marquee, free bar, food etc generally everyone gets smashed, used to love them!!!

They cancelled it after that, 2019 we all got a £30 voucher instead......
 
We are only a small company so always join a shared party with other companies. They can be hit or miss depending on the other companies that join you. This year was a good one and some of the other guest were a bit crazy.
 
We have a summer do and a Christmas do. The summer do was ok and I think that generally a good time was had by all. I didn't go to the Christmas do but from what I here it went ok, at least the Dev team lead near me seems to have come out a couple of hundred ahead (it was held at a casino)

Yet more HR bull**** from the most overhyped, overstaffed, overpaid department....

Ooo Sally from HR wants to see you...Unlucky i do not want to acknowledge Sally exists. Sally 2 days later rocks up and instantly starts complaining you didn't come to see me. Ahhhh so its my fault, you wanted to see me remember.... Sally then proceeds with complaints... Sally gets fired.

HR has been an absolute god send for me when I've needed them tbh. Both as an employee and an employer.

It's an institution and makes you proud to be British. Nothing says "Happy Birthday Jesus" like getting black out drunk, coked out of your bonce and cheating on your missus with a barely legal secretary.
 
NHS here. Our department is too small with 4 people, so we join up with a few other departments so that there are about 20 of us. For December 2019, we started at a pub, went to an Italian restaurant then ended up in one of the local nightclubs. It wasn't too bad actually. I was expecting generic cheese / Christmas music but they had a proper DJ on who did a house set with mixing. Most of us got suitedly drunk, nothing out of the ordinary, just us being like students again.

I've never known of a Christmas do in the private or public sector where it is paid for us. We've always paid for them ourselves.

I've never heard of a summer work's do.

That Swedish flat-pack company? I used to work for IKEA and the Christmas parties were often really good fun as were the Christmas presents. They love their tertials.

Our Christmas party escalated this year. We went to a Lebanese restaurant which doesn't serve alcohol so after we went to a few bars/clubs then before I knew it most of us were hammered and it was about 5am. But luckily no one made a prat of themselves.
