Out of interest, I was wondering how graphics processing is carried out in systems with GPUs in x-fire/SLI.
I'd assumed 1 of 2 possibilities, so I'm sure it will actually be the third possibility that I didn't consider. 1). You have 2x double buffering (quad buffering) and can therefore almost double framerate. The system coordinates the 'firing sequence' of the cards so that they alternatively provide a frame. 2). Each card single buffers, so with 2 cards acting in sequence you get double buffering, but free up significant processing power per card by only needing to build a single frame.
I looked on t'internet but didn't find a good explanation.
