how do i build a product finder for a website?

Hi guys,

Can any of you guys point me in the right direction to build a product finder type app/form a website?

I don't have flash and use linux so i'd need to take that into account when building it.

I've done multiple web searches but can't find a single tutorial.

I'm guessing I need to use XML sheets to contain the data, but if would be better held a database.

Any ideas?

MySql for the database and php for the code.

I've got a mysql database. Guess i'll need to learn the necessary php.

take a look at magento if your looking at doing something seriously

I use modx and foxycart for smallish sites.

I just want something basic with a drop down menu for example.

select your car manufacturer
--Audi
--Ford

Select your model
--TT

Select the year
--2005

Then displaying some some information relating to that particular vehicle.

Something like this:
