My Network adapter for some reason is called "Ethernet TALKTALK752AB3_EXT". EXT is the name I gave to a WiFi extender many years ago that I am about to upgrade and have now disconnected. I have no idea how _EXT has ended up on my cable connection but I would like to rename it to avoid any confusion with the new WiFi extender I am about to install. When I go to Change Adapter Settings and Rename I only get the option to change the Ethernet part of the name. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of the _EXT on the ethernet connection?

It's been a long time since I did it, but from memory you want (in windows 10)
Control panel>network and internet>network connections tehn right click the adaptor and select rename.

I think Windows used to name the network adaptor after what it connected to or something, as well as letting you manually name them.
I think my previous computer named the adaptors network 1 and 2, and I seem to remember in the days of MS's "easy" networking thing (notwork neighbourhood) it was renaming the network every time I had to fix it because it lost the sharing settings :)

Sorry didn't read the last bit of your post, possibly disable the adaptor and re-enable it after a reboot? (windows networking always feels like a bodge, especially if you've got any machines left over on it from the network neighbourhood days).
