hi everybody,

whats the proper way to clean a monitor screen, i wasn't given a cleaning cloth or anything, its the monitor in my sig.

thanks

same here i have cleaning fluid spray stuff and a sponge it says its ok for LCD i believe.. not tried it though.

i wouldnt have thought wiping a screen too hard with pixels would be a good idea

anyone have a good answer?

If it's the SP2208WFP, its a nice glossy screen, which is great for having a little wipe over with a lens cloth. Which is what I use (I bought my lens cloth from Sigma).

Any good lens cloth will do :)

Microfibre cloths are also a very good way of cleaning LCD`s. Quite commonly available now. Think i got mine from a supermarket, Spontex Microfibre Duo. Not expensive, but work really well.

Pick up some Windowlean from your local supermarket, been using it for years on monitors. (the clear stuff, not the pink stuff) Then just use a cloth or kitchen paper or something, although spray it on the cloth not the monitor.

Edit: it might actually be spelt Windowleen

Yep, MF cloths are ideal for monitor use, don't worry that they feel a bit scratchy to the skin as they are really soft and gentle to car paintwork and monitor screens. Make sure monitor is off so that the surface is cool and wipe over with a slightly damp MF then follow up with a dry cloth to buff. If you try to wipe over a warm screen then it will tend to streak but if cold then it will come up spotless. Don't worry about putting a little pressure on the screen, it will not harm it as long as you don't go at it with a very heavy hand. :)

my monitors instructions (HP 2408) say top use isopropol(sp?) alcohol and a soft cloth. CHeck what your manufacturer recommennds before you end up taking the caoting off the screen...

you should have a small cloth with your monitor...

use ONLY water !, if you dont have that cloth, use any, just dont add anything but water

a bit overkill to use isopropyl????!!! -- mabye for glass screens? or specially coated TFT's ie shiny ones?.. good stuff to remove fingerprints btw...

the hp w24084 is a shiny monitor, and I thought that it might be heavy handed too. I'll chbeck tonight whether that is the instructions for cleaning the bezel or the screen.

Personally I wouldn't use a lot of force or windowleen, but that's just me :)

Got the TFT wipe things myself and the ones I have dry streak free. I very rarely properly clean any of our screens though, when they're dusty I just use a soft cloth with very little pressure.

I just give the monitor a once over with some window cleaner and a soft, lint-free cloth. After than, polish out any streaks with a lint-free cloth, such as them you get for cleaning your glasses.
