How do I clean my engine?

Depends on the car doesn't it? I heard steam cleaning can be harmfull to certain types of engines?
 
I'd avoid anything that involves high pressure water or steam in case it gets into the electrics. Does the car not have a nice modern engine cover? I just wipe that with a cloth when I clean the car and occasionally give it a once over with black shoe polish.
Who cares what it looks like under that...
 
You can use degreaser, a brush and a low power hose.

Either take it to a special oil filtering place.... or clean it just above a drain and hope the neighbours don't notice or complain. ;)

It you are worried about the electrics, either tape a bag around them (plastic, not paper ;) ) and don't spray directly at the wires.

I too use petrol to clean up all the oily bits in my car / engine. Never had it explode in my face before either! ;)

Might not want to use it if you have ever so soft skin though, maybe this is what Janesy meant :p.
