i wanna do a straight connection from my pc to 360, to get the 360 online, dont use a router etc, whats the best method to do this? I have it connected, but there is no ip being given to the 360. thanks in advance!

i cant actually find one that answers me, after much looking, they are all to do with wireless or networks with more than one pc. i just have pc > connected via usb to NTL modem > 360 connected with patch cable. I am a network novice :(

tbh, you'd be much better off just getting a router. It's a much easier solution and it'll be faster too as you'll be using a straight ethernet connection rather than having to go through a USB connected PC. That and there's the benefit of not having to have your PC switched on to play your 360 online.

EDIT: Is it a regular cable, or a crossover cable? If it's a regular cable, there's your problem as to directly connect two machines over ethernet, a crossover cable is needed.

i use this method :

Xbox 360 -> lan port on pc -> shared internet connection via usb modem

then the PC auto detected the 360 and set up things like ip addresses

I'll help, ive done what you want to do, saves yourself£60 on the wireless adapter.
Obviousley join the xbox to the PC via the ethenet cable, then on the land connection you need to 'ctrl' and click both and then pair i think it is or bridge. ANd its as simple as that. Obviousley your PC needs to be on in order for your 360 to have internet access. I had a thread on AV Forums about this, ist agood place to try, had a larger gaming section than ocuk.

right getting somewhere now I think. It all detects but it gets to a point where it has to download a update for Live, it then says it cant download the update. Any ideas on this?!?!?
