How do I connect my GFs work laptop to my PCs?

So her machine is set up obviously for her work network. It has a computer name, & 'domain' along the lines of xxxint.net.

My computers on the other hand have a workgroup instead.

All I want to do it for her PC to be able to see my PCs share drives. eg: Be able to connect to \\server\c (C drive on my machine called server).

But how do I tell her machine that the machine/drive it's looking for is on the workgroup 'WORKGROUP'?

I really don't want to start messing around with its Network ID etc.

ps: Her machine is already using my wireless router...

Er.. this may sound daft, but have you actually tried it? :)

My work laptop that's attached to the work domain can browse to my server via the unc path with no issue at all

Just set up the share as normal on your server along with an ID for her to use. Then when you connect to \\server\c use the new ID but prefix it with the server name ie \\server\new_id

yep - even though it's on a domain, it should work - however, I'd carefully checkout the work IT policy before you do this as it could be non-compliance, and if picked up on could cause her some issues.
Not saying it will, but you never know....

No it doesn't work :)

My other machines (on the workgroup) can happily access \\server\c or \\server\d

But my GF machine cannot access these addresses? It times out... It's like it cannot see the network WORKGROUP?

UNC path?

Not sure if I follow. I've already shared the machines C drive as 'C' and the D drive as 'D'. So from other machines on the workgroup I can just access \\server\C or \\server\D?

AHA! Progress! Her machine has some sort of VPN thingy running, I assume connecting her to her work network?!?!?

I stopped that, typed in \\server\c and it asked me for a logon, and I'm on!

Sorry, \\server\c would be the unc path :)

I think I've had my vpn open before now and had a similar problem :D whoops

Well, I know next nothing about networking really, and even less about VPN... But with the VPN thingy closed/off it connects to my workgroup, so I'm happy! :)
