My sister that buying a brand new 1.2 Clio on finance is a really bad idea?
She currently drives a Y reg (newer shape, mk3?) 1.2 16v Clio with around 38k on the clock, when she bought it nearly 2 years ago it had about 32k on the clock and I think ive put a couple of thousand on it myself.
She literally does not drive out of the town, shes never drove any further than 10miles from home and only ever done that once.
She went to go Renault dealer yesterday and shes about to go ahead and order a new clio for September.

At the end of the day I understand that its her money and in the end up to her what she does, but her clio is in very good condition, she drives at 28mph everywhere and I cant see how a £8000 financed clio will be better than what she drives already.

Girlies love up to date reg' plates and the latest shape/fashionable cars... the latest Clio ticks all their boxes.

Considering the amount of miles she does it does seem a utterly stupid purchase. I'd try talking her out of it a bit more but at the end of the day its her choice!

Abit of advice... girls are always right, and if you are a man, its highly unlikely that you can change a girls mind on something which they are hell bent on :)

However £8k seems alright for a new car, on broad speed they start @ £9k!

Probably £8k worth of finance plus her car?

NathanE is right though, a fundemental part of womens car choices are based on the numbers on the reg plate

Even worse is my mother seems to totally agree its a good idea
Up to her at the end of the day, I just keep thinking about all the GOOD cars I could buy for £8k!

Is she completely dense?
Why do people buy **** cars new, god, I don't understand women.

It's a shopping car anyway, how can you not drive more than 10 miles from home, pfft, women.

Town centre is about 3 miles from here, her work about 4 miles away, she wont drive out the town as shes too scared of the roads in Newcastle, its pathetic.

the thing is though, a good car for you isn't necessarily a good car for her.
you'd be comfortable in a larger more powerful car, but if she's a timid driver she may not be. moreover, the added pressure she might feel manoevuring a larger car may make her driving suffer.

i understand your sentiment 100% as when i was a child i felt the same way about my father.

Oh, Ive not forgot about it, that was one of her main criteria for choosing.

lolz

In the ned these fools buy the car new so wecan get it cheap down the line.

Show her that she can get a TT or other far trendier car for the same cash, one in her fave colour, you need to sell it to her in girl language not logic.

Luckily my good lady scratch built pipe cars with her pops and does motor cross so I don't have to cope with that rubbish, and the fact that she happens to be a 6 foot blond South African with an up and coming photo shoot for either Vouge or Diesel work helps

How lucky am I :p ;)

Makes me laugh how annoyed my misses gets with girls like that, all her work mates getting all excited by shoes and handbags and while she likes all that she gets turned on my the sound of a V8 (I thought she came when an SLK55 AMG booted it past us one day)

How can people like that pass a driving test, if you've got no balls you shouldn't be on the road. People who panic are bound to cause accidents man.

I understand what your saying, my main gripe is the car shes replacing her current car with, is as far as I can tell, pretty much the same car. It will be no better than her current car, hers has been totally reliable and costs near to nothing to run.

"balls" are the reason men are a higher insurance risk than women.
having more skill behind the wheel is only one side of the coin. the other is how often you drive like a nob and NEED skill to get you out of stupid situations your ego and balls have got you into.

we all get frustrated by decisions other people make when we KNOW we could've done better for them.
there's really only one way to do this.
talk to her, listen to what she thinks, offer your advice then leave her to it.
even if you're right you could end up falling out with her over it and it's just not worth it. if she can afford it and she's happy then it's her call mate.

She never panics, as she never goes anywhere that would cause her to panic, only local roads.
I know quite a lot of women who are the same, my mates aunty has been driving years and shes never left the town in her car.
