So, an attempt to dodge ebay fees or a full on "steal your money" scam?

Expensive item with a short auction time and very low bid and the following picture in the description:

As long as they aren't suggesting buying without making a bid that should be OK. He may be better off limiting buyers to ones with a certain score.

Technically Paypal then collection is best as (A) You can't get robbed, (B) you're covered, and finally (C) you can get the item then demand a refund anyway if your an unscrupulous type

If it was legit, why would they not just have an ebay "buy it now" price?

Never had a problem with eBay.

List it with the 7 day default and let it run.
