Hi quick question, got my unlock code for the Nokia N80 (Orange) yesterday.

Should I enter it with the O2 sim card in the phone, or without the sim in there?

I've tried it twice (with no sim inside) and it says code error....

Thanks

first, don't enter it any more.

second, where did you get the codes from? where they from Orange or elsewhere?

From onther forum

"Yes an Orange sim-locked Nokia N80 bought off auction sites can be unlocked by Orange without much hassle. The procedure is

1.) buy phone
2.) buy Orange sim (£1 online)
3.) register imei with sim by calling 08000790006
4.) wait for phone to activate
5.) call orange on 450
6.) Request unlock code
7.) upload £20 to prepaid balance
8.) Wait few days for code

I am waiting for my code so will update you once I have it and it has worked."

I received my unlock code from Orange this morning and it works. So to unlock a N80 on orange UK will cost you £21 (£20 for unlock,£1 for sim card).

My vodafone sim is working fine.

In the United Kingdom, government regulator OFCOM dictates that networks must release the unlocking information to customers for non-contract handsets (e.g. Pay as you go) on request. Consumers who purchase handsets under “Pay as you go” or a similar scheme are purchasing the handset outright at the point of sale, this has in effect made phone unlocking in the UK a consumer right.

they guy already has a code...we need to see if it's a genuine code form orange or not...cus either way entering any more times could stop him/her from being able to ever unlock it by code!

so please answer my questions

Right, the guy I brought the N80 sent the wrong code in the first place...I'm hoping this next one is right because its my last attempt (3 attempts right?)

Do I need to put the o2 sim in, or shall I just do it again sim free?

[The code is direct from Orange]

hi, you get 5 chances, but you don't want to get to the point where you actually one have only 1 left!!!

i think it's usually better to do it without a sim card in the phone

1 other point...type the code in BUT before you enter the last #, double and tripple check the code (will only take a few seconds!) then type the last #!

that way you know it's not you that's typing it wrong if for any reason it don't work!

it should say somin like "restriction off" if it works.

good luck.

all working - thanks for your help llaadd!

managed to flash the firmware as well so no more horrible firmware orange stuff exists!
