how do i find out what area a phone number is from?

so i have a miss call, it begins with 0871. how do you find out what area that phone number is from or who its from?

anyone know where i can find out, except phoning the number back of course?

That's not an area code, it's a premium, or business number. Best you can hope for is a company, but I dont think there's a searchable database for public use.

0871 isnt an area code, its kinda like 0800

0871 is a national number, so you'll find out very little from that.

Try googling the phone number. It sometimes works.

Stick the area code in google usually works. In this case, its a special rate number. There have been scams with these numbers and missed calls, so don't bother ringing it back.

I wouldn't phone any number than rang me and hung-up, or ring a couple of times - unless it's local.

I'd personally Google the number, and see what it turns up.

i tried google, but i it just turns up with "your search did no match any documents"

how would i find a number on google?

i always wonder who phones me if i miss a number i dont have in my phone book. they called at 9.45pm tonight tho so i dunno what company is phoning me at this time of night

type in the firdt four digit or so

Probably a Nigerian trying to offer some funds into your bank accounts.

He work(ed) for BT for 38 years and somehow knows where any area code in country is from...

Only numbers starting 01xx or 02xx are geographical all other are not and so cannot trace an area.
