Hi, I have a PC I built about a year ago and stuck 2 x 1 GB memory modules in it. I want to add more. But how do I know what the max is i can put in my PC is ?

and what kind of memory? etc etc? Do i have to take computer to bits to find out what make of mobo it is and cpu etc as I have forgot what I have brought, I know it is a dual core cpu though.

thanks

Download CPU-Z and this will tell you on the Memory tab what type of RAM you have. It's worth checking the maximum amount of RAM your system board can take as well. You can find this out by getting the model of your board from CPU-Z also and then checking on the manufacturer's website.

You will need the motherboard details but you can also go to one of the memory manufacturers sites where most have a system to recommend memory.

Also note that adding additional sticks of memory can sometimes slow the system down. If you have a dual channel board then two bigger sticks may well work better than four smaller ones.

Andi.

Thanks guys will do that later,

main thing is i am running 2 gb memory and my friend has started using my computer with cs3 and she is into photography and she shoots in RAW, just takes a while viewing raw files on my PC, wondered if that was just down to 2GB ram ? I am using Windows 7

Just go to crucial website and do a pc scan.

It will tell you how much ram you have, what each slot can have a maximum of, how much ram you can have in total and will even show you which ram to buy :)
