The bath has been blocked for a few days and being a student house, jobs don't get fixed very often. My housemate tried fixing it but ended up creating a small leak in the kitchen below so i've bought some plughole unblocker stuff. Problem is, there is a small amount of shallow water still in the bath and so i can't use the unblocker stuff. Its taking hours for the water to drain even after using a bucket to get rid of some of the water...so ideas of how to remove less than 1cm worth of water? Tried a water bottle to scoop it but hasn't really worked due to the shape of it...and i don't want to drink it through a straw.

Yes blah blah its 1.20am. :o

I tried a sponge but doesn't seem to work very well as it isn't 'sucking up' enough. Its the only sponge in the house as far as i know. :(

Your low level bath trapped is blocked, you have bends below plug holes to stop the foul smell of the swears coming up, just wait till tomorrow and buy a plunger, if not take the bath panel off and take off the trap probably pubes and sick blocking it.

As others have said, a sponge or towel is the best idea. It's possible that the top of the drain is blocked with hair though, if you can get that cleared it might help draining a little. I find it's easy to clear with a cotton bud.

You need to take the trap apart (unscrew it) and clean out whatever is blocking the flow. There's a 99.9% chance that it's blocked with hair, the hair will also hold on to other bits of filth adding to the problem.
