Just built a new PC and installed iTunes after my other PC, which I used for iTunes went **** up. All my music is fine as this was stored on a network drive so I have that back in, but I have loads of applications on my iPhone and of course now I have associated my iPhone with my new PC it want's to remove all the applications on my iPhone when I click the sync box. Obviously I can re-download all of the applications again but what I want to do is simply bring the applications (all of which I bought where applicable) off my iPhone and into my new PC based iTunes library.

So, can I do this or am I boooo gard?

Thing is with apps, unlike music, it knows when you have bought stuff before and simply allows you to download stuff again for free, I just forget all the stuff I bought!

There's a complete list of everything you've downloaded in your account history in case you forget. You may as well just download stuff again.

Of course I hadn't forgot that!!!

I never new there was an account history :D:o

And how do I find it. I see Purchase History but all that shows is my last download??

Purchase History is it, I've got 19 'batches' which show everything I've bought and downloaded.

There are two sections, "Latest Purchases" and "Previous Purchases" is below.

Nope, not me. All I see is latest purchases, nothing more saddly. :(

To put applications on your itunes library do this:

Authorise your computer
Store>authorise computer

Then when your iphone appears on the left hand side menu of itunes, RIGHT CLICK on it and transfer purchases. This will put your apps on the itunes library

Thanks

Further to what rossk26 says, I think when you press "sync iphone" it says something like "there are items on your iphone that are not present in your itunes library, do you wish to transfer them?" then press yes. Job done. Although for some reason certain things won't transfer, this happened to me over christmas when they did that free give away.

Chaps, sorry but this isn't working for me.

1: The version of iTunes to which I have connected my iPhone to is one of 2 versions that are authorised to play content purchased with this account. I have checked my 'Account' within iTunes and it shows this.

2: When I attach my iPhone to this computer I am able to see the phone fine and all my music (which is stored on my NAS drive) is synced without an issue as are my Contacts, Podcasts etc. However, my Applications, which only reside on the iPhone right now are not transferred or synced as this option is not ticked in the tick box on iPhone options menu.

3: When I click 'Sync' on the iPhone options menu, the one I access when my iPhone is attached by clicking on the iPhone in the left hand menu, it gives me one option only. All applications and their data will be replaced on the iPhone. I have no otions to merge etc.

4: When I right click on the iPhone in the left hand menu, select transfer purchases it does not transfer any of my applications.

So, my conclusion is it won't allow me to take the applications off the iPhone and into my iTunes on an authorised computer unless I am missing something?

Hmmm odd. I can't test it here as my iphone is a works one and synced with my works machine, so I can check tomorrow.

Maybe it won't let you transfer back because these apps have been removed from iTunes maybe?

The Applications are still available on the iTunes store as most are newish but they are NOT on the iTunes application I am trying to download them to as it's a fresh iTunes install on a new PC. I basically lost my backup so had to start again but obviously as my music, audiobooks and podcasts were on my NAS bringing them back was a work of moment. The issue is the apps as they were not on the NAS and only resided on the iPhone, hence my prediciment I guess.

I am going to down load them all again, can't get into iTunes store at the moment mind, which is odd, seems it's down.

It seems I am now getting to the bottom of this crappy situation as when I tried to download all the applications again, it started to charge me again!!!!

I changed my email address from the old address I am phasing out to my new MobileMe address. All the other details stayed the same, same card to debit etc but it seems that it's not your details that Apple see it's your email address. Now I am pretty sure I have been using the new address for weeks, well I have, but it seems the applications on my iPhone relate to the old email address and of course that is gone!!!!

So, anyone know HTF I contact Apple to discuss this 'issue' with them?

You can't actually change your e-mail address that is linked to your apple i.d, you can change your contact details! What you've probably done is signed into a different account and downloaded the apps again. Whereas if you signed into you "old" email account, this would not have happened.

To contact apple visit apple.com/support/itunes

You will fill out a form, and the itunes guys will get back to you within 24 hours for your issue.

They came back to me. I did change my email address but in Apple world this is creating a new account, which is a little annoying and they can't combine my accounts! Only option is use the told account, but then I don't use that email address any more so what happens to receipts etc. Messy at best.

..and to add to this, the old account is no longer recognised by Apple, so I have gone back to their support contact.

That is a bit of a ball drop on there part.

Sometimes I think they go out of there way to make life more difficult.

Well sort of sorted it, I am now using my old logon but with the new email address, which as far as I am concerned is what I was trying to do when I thought I changed my email address! Back to where I need to be, all the history discussed above has appeared. It seems that even though I log on with the email address I use today it has created a new account for this email address. If I log on with my name, without the email extension it works. I must have somehow created a second account at some point, go knows how, but now I am back where I believed I was before and all seems OK again......for now.
