Apprently the sky website says i cant get sky broadband atm because im on cable, what do i need to switch to be able to get it? Because there highest package is 16mb DL speeds and unlimited downloads for a decent price. And i cant stand the isp i have now (VM)

Make sure you are on a BT Exchange where Sky have their own equipment installed (LLU).
If not then you'll be limited to the standard "Up to 8mb" from Sky that they offer all customers.

Not only that, it has a usage limit too (not that the LLU offering is unlimited).

as above check which package you can receive. the one you want is the 16mb package max package

oh and one other thing, you know ADSL works differently to cable and that 16mb ADSL doesnt mean you will actually get 16mb right ?

it depends on the length and quality of your phone line, and if your miles from the exchange, could be more like 2mb ?

Well to be fair 20mb on "cable" rarely means you'll get 20mb.
Sure the cable system doesn't care how far you are from the exchange (benefit over ADSL).
However get enough users on any particular cable "cell or hub" and the speed decreases can be rather impressive.

I remember when I was on the good old 4mb NTL package, as everyone got home from school and logged on my speed used to fall through the floor for an hour or two.
