I used to play wow and bfbc2. I got a girlfriend and so gave up wow but still played bf. I tried giving up bf not long ago and it was a disaster, I felt like a huge hole appeared in my life. I want to prove to myself that I can still be content without online games, I've been playing them for 10 years now. Does anyone know any tips for giving them up? Other activities that can fufill the rush of bf? I'm thinking of jumping into a bunch of activities like martial arts, tennis etc. No idea if I'll get nearly the same satisfaction.

If you start doing other things as you said, such as other activities which get you off your computer it will help a lot, also spending time with the gf could help and just generally doing something that you enjoy doing (Apart from gaming :p)

lol am i hearing this correct, you got a girlfriend so now you are giving up online gaming,is this her idea or yours.
To be honest having a girlfriend should make no dff on what hobbies we do in our spare time.

Difficult one, I've oscillated many times between this (not touching any games, to the equivalent of binge drinking). Certainly, moderation is the key - there's nothing wrong with the odd session now and then, especially if you've got nothing else to do and the weather is adverse. I think also it is good to find something that will make you enjoy doing it more than an online game, then you'll gravitate to that which gives the most pleasure.

It sounds like you are interested in games to be less interested you need to fill it with something of equal interest, or at least have general interest to start with.

Sit down and list the things that are of interest, you listed a few items but if you are just running at them in the hope they will pass the time then that's not really the same thing and so you need to think about your interests a little more, that done you will probably forget games quite easily since you will fill up the time with other interests.

I used to play WoW in almost every waking moment outside of my job and friends/drinking time.
Last summer I just stopped drinking which broke a bit of a habit, I just stopped WoW, didn't even log on to a PC. Bought myself a bunch of books, started sleeping better and towards winter started the drinking again.

Right now I've got a bunch of beers and Cataclysm that the missus bought for my birthday sitting right next to me in shrink wrap since 2 days after release and I've no intention of opening it at all even though I know it's there and even although still subscribed all this time. I'm pretty content just browsing forums and listening to music.

As mentioned previously, it's just habit, you are asking about a rush like BF but really that's just habit too. Break the habit if that's what you want to do, buy a box set of DVD's anything really.

That said, I found Halo for PC last night and going back to it after many years was great :). Not what you want to hear but everything in moderation.

Good luck, happy new year.

Thanks helmet. The problem with dvd's and such is they don't stimulate me, more something I watch to relax from other things (uni, gf, gaming).
Yeah I used to play Halo also. Magic pistol bullets!!

May want to try warhammer?

*que lots of offensive statements*

I used to spend many hours after school gaming on call of duty, various strategy games such as company of heroes until i picked up warhammer again after a 5 year break. Im not sure if it would be your cup of tea but i find it relaxing glueing and painting the minatures. Great fun :)

Have a baby.

This certainly took care of my gaming habit. Now I just really do not have the time I once had.

Talk to her. Maybe she will go for it lol ;)

work out more, see more of ya mates and general go out more and do things that u usually wouldnt you'd be surprised that theres more things out there then online games! i was addicted to wow for 5 years, best thing i ever done was quitting (also lost just under 4 stone), i still play CS tho when i get home from work (4am) to chill before shower then bed! :)
