Hi,

Is there anyway i can definately identify a motherboards form factor? eg atx, mini atx etc?

I just want to make sure of the size before ordering a replacement for a friends computer.

Thanks, Russ

try there but as rule of thumb

matx most common in compact branded systems, tend to have only 4 expansion slots on the case/mobo, motherbaord is compact nearly square

atx board als very common tends to have 6 or 7 exapansion slots on case/mobo
motherboards reactangular large9nearly square if lots of coolers etc onboard)

older dells and some others have BTX format, micro or full size hard to replace

mini itx is quite rare and very compact

get a model numbr of the board or system and check its sepcs online

Cheers Guys. The system in question is an Acer Aspire T180. The board to the best of my knowlege is unbranded/debranded by acer. I think from your description it is an matx board.

Its nearly square and iirc has 4 expansion slots.... 2 pci and 2 pcie. Will get the case opened up later and double check but all being well i can take the plunge and pick a new board up for the system.
