It will be used for gaming and graphic design mainly, thanks.

Cheaper ram ? remember all you need is ram capable of 500mhz to get 4ghz on that chip as the multi is 8x.
so can basically get generic ram even if it is 1000mhz if you don't plan on over 4ghz on the chip.

Also get the tuniq tower 120 cooler it's right up there with the thermalright and cheaper.

with that saved you can get a slightly better power supply such as this as it looks like you will be going xfire so I'd suggest this one which has 60a on the 12 v rail http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...name=Thermaltake ToughPower 750W Power Supply

Indeed no point going to town really because Nehalem is just round the corner if I were buying now I would get a cheap cpu like the 2180 and a cheap motherboard and just splurge on the gpu 4870 and a good power supply that way you wont lose as much and might be able to upgrade to Nehalem cheaper than if you buy super expensive board and cpu now up to you though but just a thought with nehalem and x58 coming this december.

i have this psu on the way c64, you mind if i ask do you use it yourself. i got it on another etailer cheaper than the corsair hx620w. will be replacing a 3.5 year old enermax noisetaker 600w. the reviews sound good about it.

No I own a corsair hx 520 but I have read and heard many good things about the thermaltakes power supplies and would definitely buy one anyway it's the best value power supply with 60a.

thanks for the responses. I'm building this machine for my sister and if it was me I would probably wait until december but she's not into games like crysis more like Sims so this should be fine!

I agree with the power supply comment too. I have a corsair at the moment so that is why I chose that one but that seems like a decent suggestion.

Can anyone suggest a better Mobo? For ~100 ex VAT?

if you're sister isn't into top line gaming like crysis why not go with a 4850/q6600, or am i missing something ?

She likes video editing and other graphics work so that's why I'm going for a more powerful processor. I think the 4850 would be good enough but I shouldn't discount her wanting to play new games in the future that needs better graphics for.

She's having trouble choosing a case. Something about not being able to find one that looks nice for her budget of under £80. I try to tell her she should find something functional but... women!

Mate, that will be the most important thing for her - the case. Get a nice Lian Li for her. Also, for video editing, the screen, ram and hard drive's will be the most important. Get 4gb of this, a Q6600 and purchase another Samsung F1. You could then RAID the sammys which would greatly improve video work etc.
