Not sure how to explain this, but i have a Asus P5QL PRO mother board, and i want to install xp pro inc sp3 on to a sata hard drive, but i know that xp will not install onto a sata hard drive from the off, it needs drivers at F6 to proceed, but when i go to my motherboards download site, all the files seem to be in exe files, also im not sure exactly what files i would even need at F6, i was considering useing nlite to add all files to my retail xp disc, but again not sure what files i would need to add, so i was hoping someone could just look at my mother boards download site here and select OS WinXP http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=P5QL+PRO&p=1&s=22 and tell me what files i need to get the sata drive useable, and what drivers to use for the chipset i have intel core duo E7300, as i think these drivers have to be installed when first installing the OS, any help would be great, cheers

you do not need additional drivers to install XP on to a sata drive. you just need to get in the bios to put it in IDE mode. check section 4.3.5 of the manual. i can't copy/paste because it won't let me (damn protection on the PDF or something  )

Ah, i did read something about that, but will that not mean i wont be getting any speed benifit from the sata 2 hard drive then ? also, how do i install any chipset drivers for AHCI mode ? or is that not needed, or can sata drivers be installed once at desktop ? cheers

it really won't make any difference. you can still install the chipset drivers once windows is installed because it will identify other components on the board.

Right, have just installed a clean new xp pro on hard drive on sata port 0 and all is well, what i need to know is, if i put my old sata xp drive on any other port so i can backup some stuff on to new drive, will this be ok, i mean it wont try to boot from it will it ? cheers

Thx for reply, yeh i will check in bios to make sure it is last to boot, wanted to set it as slave, but from what i have read is you cant with sata.
